If you are making a big batch of waffles, you can keep them warm in the oven at a low temperature (135☌/275☏/Gas 1) for 5 minutes whilst the rest of them cook.Don't open the waffle iron up halfway through cooking.The chocolate and orange combination works really well together. Add some extra flavour with a drop of orange essence. You can use this mixture to make mini waffles.Give these waffles a fruit boost by mixing some blueberries in to the waffle mixture.If you don't have time to make our homemade healthier Nutella, then you can use store bought instead.You can swap the oat flour for plain flour to make these waffles lighter.Don't over-mix the waffle batter, as this will make the waffles too dense.Cinnamon - This adds some warmth, but it could be left out or you could use ginger or nutmeg.Ī full ingredients list with measurements is in the recipe card below.Vanilla brings out all the other flavours in sweet recipes, as bit like what salt does to savoury recipes. Vanilla - This adds a real depth of flavour to the waffles.The better quality the better the flavour though. Nutella - We used our homemade Nutella to keep these lower in sugar, but you could use any brand of chocolate spread.Milk - You can use any milk you like here - even plant based.Egg - These help to make the waffles light and fluffy.Don't worry - they don't taste like banana. This is needed as we are using oat flour. Banana - This not only adds some natural sweetness, but it gives the waffles a nice moistness too.Baking powder - This helps the waffles to rise and give them some fluffiness.It does mean that the waffles are more dense though. We find that using oats means that the waffles keep us fuller for longer. Oats - Instead of plain flour, we used oats ground into flour for a high fibre alternative.
